In a first for the Americas region, ExxonMobil affiliate Esso Exploration & Production Guyana Ltd (“EEPGL”) is set to install a subsea WAG jumper made from Strohm’s TCP on the Liza Phase 2 project in Guyana. This will be followed by a multi-jumper deployment campaign on EEPGL’s and its co-venturers’ Yellowtail project using the TCP market leader’s ‘Jumper on Demand’ procurement model.

DNV, Strohm, and the Non-Metallic Innovation Centre (NIC) have launched a report comparing the lifecycle carbon footprint of externally coated carbon steel pipe and thermoplastic composite pipes (TCP). The report shows that TCP has a significantly lower carbon footprint, in the range of 30-60%, than an equivalent carbon steel pipeline solution for the defined case study.

As we expand our qualified product range we also qualify the latest inspection technologies. We have been working with our development partner Digital X-Ray Engineering Ltd. to deliver an automated, highly sensitive digital X-ray system for use on our Carbon Fibre based designs for both PA12 and PVDF full pipe cross section mapping. The system developed by this specialist UK inspection company has the highest levels of sensitivity to identify even the smallest anomalies in the pipe construction.

In flowline applications, especially in shallow water where tidal currents are strong and wave motions reach the seabed, flowlines require additional weight in order to ensure on-bottom stability (OBS). For light weight TCP this has been even more important, which prompted Strohm to develop an integrated weight coating.
