Meet the Team: Kim Tam

18 July 2025

With a career that spans multiple industries, Kim's story is one of growth, learning, and an unwavering commitment to sustainability. Her path reflects both a passion for innovation and a drive to make a positive impact on the world.

Today, in her role as Strohm's finance director, she combines her experience across various industries with a deep personal commitment to the future of clean energy.

Before joining Strohm in September 2021, Kim had previously worked in financial roles across several sectors. After completing her bachelor’s degree in business administration, she gained hands-on experience navigating fast paced industries such as maritime and hospitality, whilst completing her master’s in finance.

The decision to join Strohm came after a period of introspection following the COVID pandemic. “I finally had the time to think about what truly inspired me”, she said. “I wanted to make a difference and contribute to the global energy transition. Strohm’s work, especially its emphasis on reducing carbon emissions and its innovative role in the hydrogen market, resonated deeply with my values. Ultimately, I wanted to improve the planet's future rather than contribute to its further degradation.”

Strohm's rapid growth and the technology’s role in the energy transition have been major sources of motivation for Kim. Over the past three and a half years, she has been a part of the company’s evolution from a research and development-focused organisation into a thriving growth company.

As a key member of Strohm’s finance team, Kim makes the complex understandable. She supports teams across the company, translates financial data into clear business insights, and helps ensure that decisions are backed by more than just instinct. “The best part of my job,” she says, “is being a true partner and helping people understand what the numbers mean so we can grow with intention.”

Notably, securing support from the Just Transition Fund is one of the highlights of her time at Strohm, a milestone that not only reinforced Strohm’s leadership in hydrogen innovation but also reflected the company’s commitment to a lower-carbon future.

And while the company has been scaling up, so has Kim. She recently completed an executive master’s in finance, focusing her thesis on improving financial insights into facility performance, product margins, and project results; these topics are crucial for Strohm as the company shifts its focus from R&D to production.

Looking ahead, she’s excited about Strohm’s expanding work in offshore and onshore hydrogen and carbon capture, and the ongoing challenge of making clean energy solutions commercially viable. The focus on sustainability is not just a company directive; it’s a philosophy that influences every aspect of Kim's daily life, from the decisions she makes in her personal life to the projects she champions within the company.

Despite the challenges of balancing work, study, and family life, Kim finds joy in pursuing personal passions. An avid cook with a love for fine wines, she often hosts dinner parties with her husband, sharing her hospitality roots. Outside of cooking, Kim is a cycling enthusiast, frequently enjoying both beach biking and racing cycling. Travel is another key part of her life, with plans to explore new destinations like Iceland, following a memorable backpacking trip to Thailand with her children earlier this year.
