Jeyhun Farajli discusses how Strohm is driving innovation with its global team.
Building on his process and pipeline precommissioning, and hydrotesting engineering experience at Halliburton and Saipem, Jeyhun Farajli has been putting his expertise to the test at Strohm and working closely with our global teams. Having joined the company as a project and technical sales engineer in 2023, he is now marking a year with the company by sitting down to discuss his time so far and where he sees opportunities arising across the renewables and CCS industry.
Reflecting on his previous experience in the industry, Jeyhun said: “My journey in the subsea technology sector began when I was exposed to the intricacies of process and pipelines precommissioning, and hydrotesting engineering as an intern at Halliburton Azerbaijan. Following this, I joined the team full time as a process and pipelines field and project engineer before I moved to Saipem as a lead pre-commissioning and hydrotesting engineer. These roles gave me a flavour, not just of the sector as a whole, but also of the dynamic technologies available in the field.”
A passion for technologies that improve operations offshore is what led Jeyhun to join the team at Strohm. Having worked with the similar equipment and technology in his previous roles, Jeyhun was intrigued by thermoplastic composite pipe (TCP) and the opportunity it presents.
“Having dedicated several years to the subsea technology sector, primarily focused on pipelines and subsea network precommissioning and hydrotesting, I was drawn to the company’s innovative approach to TCP manufacturing and its reputation across the subsea community. The opportunity to join a business at the forefront of this technology, catering to both the oil and gas and renewable energy sectors, was incredibly appealing to me.
“Strohm’s commitment to advancing sustainable solutions and its reputation for delivering high-quality products also aligned perfectly with my career aspirations. Despite having slightly different experience, I saw joining the team as an exciting opportunity to further deepen my expertise in subsea technologies and contribute to shaping the future of the sector.”
This commitment to sustainability and support of renewables is also a passion of Jeyhun’s, as he explains: “Being part of a company that has been certified climate-neutral for the last four years fills me with immense pride and motivation. I come to work every day knowing that we are making a positive impact on the environment. It's incredibly rewarding to be part of a team that prioritises environmental responsibility, ensuring that our operations have minimal impact on the world around us. This ethos not only aligns with my personal values but also serves as a constant source of inspiration to strive for excellence in everything we do.“
Even from the very early stages of his time at the company, Jeyhun has supported the company to tender for CCS projects across the world.
“I’ve been involved in a number of exciting tendering projects. As part of this process, I help to develop the technical offering we provide to our customers, gaining a detailed understanding of the work scope, the environment and demonstrating how we can support with our TCP. This has included projects in the emerging CCS market and traditional oil and gas activities, which has allowed me to engage with the wider Strohm team across the world.
“One of the most valued aspects of my time at Strohm has been the opportunity to collaborate with individuals from a variety of backgrounds and cultures. When working on a deepwater project located in South America, I was lucky enough to team up with colleagues in Brazil, which really reinforced my belief in the power of diversity and teamwork to drive innovation and success within our organisation.
“This collaborative atmosphere is also key to developing insights within the sector and has allowed me to broaden my skill set, while also engaging with industry trends. I’m always eager to learn and grow, and, because of the guidance and support of my colleagues, this is something that has been easy at Strohm.”
Embracing this global team is something that Jeyhun is excited to continue with future projects at Strohm, particularly for activities within the renewables space.
“One of the most challenging yet rewarding projects I have worked on was a tender for CCS operations in the APAC region, which I was very pleased to support. As a new father, I’m particularly motivated to support industries that secure the future for the next generation and I’m proud to be a part of that through my work at Strohm.”
Having relocated from the UAE to the Netherlands with his family, Jeyhun also enjoys exploring what the country has to offer. So far, Jeyhun's favourite places to visit include Het Amsterdamse Bos in Amsterdam and the city centres across the Netherlands such as Utrecht, Amsterdam, Rotterdam, and Den Haag. Additionally, on his colleague's recommendation, he and his family recently had the pleasure of visiting the beautiful Keukenhof Botanical Garden in Lisse.
